The lineup

Three converters. One industrial-grade build.

Every Phoenix unit ships with the same NEMA 4 enclosure and TEFC cast-iron idler. Pick the configuration that fits how your shop runs.

The workhorse

Standard Rotary

The industrial-grade rotary you'd build if you built it yourself.

  • NEMA 4 weather-resistant enclosure
  • TEFC cast-iron idler motor — sealed bearings, dust-proof
  • Precision-balanced output within 3% leg-to-leg under load
  • Runs any 3-phase machine: CNC, mill, lathe, welder, compressor
  • 5-year warranty · 3–60 HP range
  • 1 year of one-on-one phone support with the engineer who built it
For tight single-phase service

DualZone

Two smaller idlers, staged. Half the inrush current. More usable HP than a single big unit.

  • Cuts inrush current ~50% versus a single equivalent unit
  • Two idlers start one at a time — your service breaker doesn't trip
  • Delivers more usable HP than a single big converter on the same single-phase service
  • Best for shops with limited single-phase capacity
  • Same NEMA 4 / TEFC cast-iron build, same 5-year warranty
  • 1 year of one-on-one phone support with the engineer who built it
Why Phoenix

Five reasons buyers switch to us — and stay.

Most rotary converters ship in indoor-rated boxes with open-frame motors and call it good. Ours don't.

  1. 01

Industrial-grade is standard — not an upgrade.

Every Phoenix converter leaves our shop with a NEMA 4 weather-resistant enclosure (sealed against rain, sleet, dust, and washdown) and a TEFC totally-enclosed fan-cooled cast-iron idler motor (sealed bearings, no internal airflow, rated for shop crud, sawdust, dairy spray, and outdoor pads).

Mount it in a barn, a lean-to, an outdoor compressor pad, or a woodshop full of dust. It will outlive the building.

NEMA 4 + TEFC cast-iron standard on every model — Standard, AutoStart, and DualZone.

  2. 02

    Family-owned since 2003. Two generations, 60+ years of phase-converter know-how.

Every unit is hand-assembled in our Phoenix, AZ shop, load-tested to nameplate spec, and serial-tracked. If something fails, you call 800-417-6568 and get the engineer who built it — no call centers, no chatbots. Every unit ships with a 5-year warranty and 1 full year of one-on-one phone support from the engineer who put it together. 40,000+ units in service across all 50 states.

Family-owned and operated since 2003 — two generations, 60+ years building phase converters.

  3. 03

Runs anything: CNC, VFD, welder, lathe, mill, kiln, compressor.

Phoenix's Precision Balanced output sits within 3% of leg-to-leg balance under load — clean enough for VFDs and modern CNC controls. We've sized units for Haas, Tormach, Mazak, Bridgeport, Lincoln, Miller, and every flavor of industrial compressor.

    Field-validated across 40,000+ installations.

  4. 04

Smart options: AutoStart kills standby, DualZone cuts inrush.

AutoStart shuts the converter fully off when your machine stops running — zero standby draw — and powers it back on in under a second when load returns. DualZone stages two smaller idlers so your single-phase service breaker doesn't trip, and gives you more usable HP than a single equivalent unit. Both are patented Phoenix configurations on the same industrial-grade chassis.

Available 5–60 HP across both lines.

  5. 05

One call. One engineer. Sized right the first time.

Wrong sizing is the #1 cause of phase converter failures. Tell us your machine's nameplate, voltage, and starting load — Glen or Danny will call you back the same day with a sized unit, a wiring diagram, and a quote.

Patented · AutoStart

Why pay to spin a converter you're not using?

Every continuous-run rotary spins 24/7 the moment you flip it on — burning power whether you're cutting or on lunch. AutoStart's onboard controller shuts the converter completely off when load drops, and powers it back on in under a second when you press cycle-start.

  • Zero standby draw — converter is fully off between cuts, not just idling
  • <1 second from off to full output when load returns
  • Same industrial chassis — NEMA 4 enclosure, TEFC cast-iron idler
  • Real power savings — you only pay for the kWh you actually use

DualZone

Half the inrush. More usable HP. Same single-phase service.

If your shop has limited single-phase capacity, a single 60 HP converter can trip your service breaker on startup. DualZone stages two 30 HP idlers — they start one at a time, so inrush is roughly half. Once both are spinning, you have more usable HP than a single 60 HP unit could deliver on the same service.

  • ~50% lower inrush current versus a single equivalent unit
  • More usable HP from your existing single-phase service
  • Two idlers — staged start, both running once spun up
  • Same industrial chassis — NEMA 4 enclosure, TEFC cast-iron idlers

A sample of the 40,000+ machine shops, fabricators, dairies, and home machinists running on Phoenix.

"I ran a 15 HP Bridgeport and a Hardinge lathe on the same Phoenix unit for two years straight. NEMA 4 cabinet sits right outside in the lean-to and laughs at the rain. Glen sized it over the phone in five minutes."

Mike R. Owner · Precision Tool & Die · Macon, GA PPC-20 · 2 yrs in service

"We added an AutoStart on our last upgrade. The Haas mini-mill, the air compressor, and a 200-amp MIG welder run on it for 18 months without a hiccup. It shuts off completely when we're not cutting — power bill dropped, and it pays the unit off."

Sarah K. Operations · Kestrel Manufacturing · Birmingham, AL PPC-30 AutoStart · 18 mos in service

"I'm a one-man shop. I run a 7.5 HP lathe, a small CNC router, and a welder off this thing. Talked to the same guy who built it. That's worth a lot."

Frequently asked

The questions every buyer asks — answered up front.

How do I know whether I need Standard, AutoStart, or DualZone?

Most shops do great with the Standard rotary — same industrial chassis, simple, bulletproof. Pick AutoStart if your machines sit idle most of the workday — the converter shuts fully off between jobs and back on in under a second, so you stop paying to spin it. Pick DualZone when your single-phase service is tight and a single big converter would trip your breaker on startup. Tell us your nameplate and your service size — we'll tell you which fits.

How do I size a phase converter for my machine?

Look at the nameplate of your largest motor. Add 50% headroom for hard-starting loads (compressors, large mills). Most shops are best served by a 20 HP unit; one-man home shops typically run a 10 HP. If you're unsure, call us with the nameplate — we'll size it correctly the first time at no charge.

Will it run a CNC or anything with a VFD?

Yes. Phoenix's Precision Balanced output stays within 3% leg-to-leg under load, which is well inside the tolerance window for Haas, Tormach, Bridgeport, Mazak, Fanuc, Siemens, and every modern VFD we've tested. We confirm compatibility for your specific machine before shipping.

What does installation actually look like?

Standard install: a single-phase breaker (typically 50A or 60A) feeds the Phoenix input; a three-phase output feeds your machine or sub-panel. We include a wiring diagram with every unit. Most shops have an electrician do the install in 2–3 hours. We'll send the diagram to them in advance if you want.

How fast does it ship — and how does it ship?

Stock units (5 HP through 30 HP) ship within 5–7 business days via freight, liftgate to your shop included. Larger units (40 HP, 60 HP) ship in 2–3 weeks. We text you a tracking number and the driver's ETA the morning of delivery.

What's covered by the 5-year warranty?

All electrical components, the controller, and the idler motor — for 5 years from ship date. If a covered part fails, we ship a replacement next-day air at our cost. Wear items (contactors, fuses) are covered for 1 year. Full warranty terms are on the back of every invoice.

What kind of phone support do I get after I buy?

Every unit comes with 1 full year of one-on-one phone support — you call 800-417-6568 and talk directly to the engineer who hand-built and load-tested your converter. Wiring questions, sizing changes, troubleshooting a tripped contactor, adding a second machine — we'll walk you through it. No tickets, no call centers, no chatbots. After year one, we still pick up the phone — the warranty support is just no longer free.

How does Phoenix compare to others?

Most rotary converters ship in indoor-rated cabinets with open-frame motors and call it good. Phoenix ships every unit with a NEMA 4 weather-resistant enclosure and a TEFC cast-iron idler as standard, plus a 5-year warranty, 1 year of one-on-one phone support, and direct access to the engineer who built your unit. We're family-owned since 2003 — two generations and 60+ years of phase-converter experience. AutoStart and DualZone are patented Phoenix configurations — you won't find them anywhere else. Compare side-by-side and give us a call if you want a candid pros/cons rundown.

What do NEMA 4 and TEFC actually mean for me?

NEMA 4 means the enclosure is sealed against rain, sleet, ice formation, splashing water, and hose-directed washdown — you can mount a Phoenix unit in a barn, lean-to, outdoor compressor pad, or wash bay. TEFC cast-iron means the idler motor is totally enclosed (no internal airflow) with a heavy cast-iron frame — sawdust, metal chips, dairy spray, and humidity stay out of the windings and bearings. Together they're why our warranty claim rate is under 1%.
