Minimal maintenance is one of the biggest advantages of a rotary phase converter. A well-built unit can run for decades with occasional attention.

Annual Checklist

  • Tighten all terminal connections: Vibration loosens wires over time. Check input, output, and capacitor terminals. Loose connections cause heat and voltage imbalance.
  • Inspect capacitors: Most common wear item. Signs of failure: bulging case, oil leakage, or L3 voltage imbalance. Typical life: 5 to 10 years in continuous-duty use.
  • Clean interior: Blow out dust with compressed air. Critical in woodworking, concrete, or farm environments.
  • Listen to bearings at startup: Smooth and quiet is normal. Grinding or squealing means wear. Quality bearings last 20,000+ hours.
  • Verify voltage balance under load: Measure L1-L2, L1-L3, L2-L3. All three within 2% of each other. Beyond 3% imbalance: inspect capacitors.

What is the most common thing that fails?

Run capacitors — typically after 5–10 years of continuous use. They are inexpensive and easy to replace. Call us and we will tell you exactly which capacitor to order.

Is there a service interval I should follow?

Inspect terminals and blow out dust annually. Check voltage balance every 2–3 years under full load. Beyond that, if it runs quiet and balanced, there is nothing to do.
