When Do You Need a Replacement Idler Motor?
The idler motor in a rotary phase converter runs continuously whenever the converter is powered. Signs that the idler motor needs replacement:
- Excessive noise (bearing rumble, growling, or vibration that has worsened over time)
- Motor runs hot to the touch at the frame — indicating winding degradation
- Voltage imbalance that cannot be corrected by capacitor replacement
- Visible damage to shaft, frame, or winding insulation
- Motor fails to start or starts slowly even after capacitor check
Is This the Right Motor for Your Converter?
This motor fits any rotary phase converter using a 215T frame 10 HP idler. To confirm compatibility with your Phoenix unit, check the idler motor nameplate or call (800) 417-6568 with your converter model number. Our team will confirm the correct replacement part.
Installation Notes
- Disconnect and lockout/tagout all power before removing the idler motor
- Discharge all run capacitors before handling — they hold lethal voltage after power-off
- Note and photograph all capacitor and wiring connections before disconnecting
- The new motor is installed in the same bolt pattern — reconnect wiring in the same configuration
- After installation, check voltage balance under load and confirm output voltage is balanced within 2%
