Wire Size Reference — FAQ

Do I use the converter HP or my equipment HP to size the input wire?

Size input wire based on the converter's single-phase input amps — which is approximately 2x the three-phase FLA of your equipment. The converter nameplate lists the input amp rating.

What wire type should I use?

THHN or THWN-2 copper in conduit is standard for phase converter installations. Use EMT or rigid conduit — vibration from the idler motor can damage unprotected wire runs.
