    What size 230V phase converter do I need?

    Match the converter's rated horsepower to the largest motor you'll start. For a typical machine shop with one 5 HP lathe, a 10 HP rotary phase converter is recommended (2x rule for hard-starting loads).     Will a 230V single-phase converter run 240V three-phase equipment?

    Yes. 230V three-phase output is compatible with equipment labeled 220V, 230V, or 240V — the NEMA tolerance is ±10%. Most older industrial machines marked "240V 3-phase" run perfectly on a 230V rotary phase converter. If your equipment is labeled 460V/480V, you'll need either a 460V converter or a step-up transformer.

    How much amperage do I need from the utility for a 230V rotary phase converter?
